Palm Beach Gardens Homes
Incorporated "on paper" in 1959 (with a population of just 1 in the 1960 census), founding father, John D. MacArthur (who also happened to own most of the land) had a grand plan for Palm Beach Gardens. The city, to be developed under his personal supervision, was set to encompass about 4,000 acres and include homes for 55,000 people. As a true nature lover, he invested millions of dollars in the creation of tree-lined streets, waterways, and rich foliage.
In 1964, MacArthur donated over $2,000,000 to help bring the headquarters for the
Professional Golfers Association (PGA) to the area. The organization resided in what is now known as BallenIsles until the early 1970's when they relocated to their home in the PGA National Development.
Today, Palm Beach Gardens has a population of close to 50,000 and covers more than 55 square miles.
