Antigua at Abacoa is a planned live-work community of Abacoa in Jupiter FL. Antigua is one of over a dozen distinct, accessible, and well thought out neighborhoods within the community.
Built between 2004 and 2005 just north of the Abacoa Town Center and Roger Dean Stadium, the neighborhood of Antigua consists of 280 townhomes. The community has a Bahamian / Key West feel with tree lined streets, porches, and balconies. Divided by a wide green space featuring open and wooded areas, and accented by a lovely gazebo, the community also features a wonderful clubhouse with landscape pool and fitness center.
The homes in Antigua consist of several models of townhomes. Two story models with 2 or 3 bedrooms and a 1 car garage range in size from around 1300 to 1350 square feet and, as of the end of 2010, were selling in the $160,000 to $190,000 range. Three story townhomes, which have 3 or 4 bedrooms and 2 car garages, run between 1850 and around 2150 square feet and were selling in the $180,000 to $225,000 range. Many of the units have upgrades such as granite kitchens and ceramic tile in first floor living areas.
Homes in Antigua have been designed to take advantage of the area's unique 'Live-Work' zoning. With small office spaces on the first floor and living quarters on the second and third floor, a number of residents enjoy the combined benefit of dedicated professional or studio space with the added benefit of working out of their home. The community of Abacoa is also home to a number of other work and educational opportunities. In 2007, the Scripps Research Institute opened its doors on the MacArthur Campus of Florida Atlantic University just across the street from Town Center and has since moved into its own facility on the Campus. In addition, the only location of the Max Planck Institute outside of Germany is set to begin construction next door to Scripps. Finally, The MacArthur Campus is also home to the 450 student FAU Harriet Wilkes Honors College. The small liberal arts college (which has a large number of students specializing in science and pre-med programs, provides serious students with an exceptionally focused academic environment and features small classes taught exclusively by professors.
As with all of Abacoa's 4500+ residents, Antigua residents enjoy convenient access to a multitude of shopping, dining, and entertainment options in Abacoa Town Center and the surrounding area. Featuring minor league baseball and spring training for the St. Louis Cardinals and Florida Marlins at Roger Dean Stadium, monthly car shows, weekly concerts in the park, the annual Artigras Art Fair, and numerous other family events throughout the year, residens find Abacoa to be a vibrant and friendly place to live.
